How do I schedule a member of Congress meeting?
First, find your representatives here.
Find the email for your representative's global health staffer here. If you know their name but are unable to locate an email, use the following email naming conventions.
For the House: first.last@mail.house.gov
For the Senate: first_last@member.senate.gov
Draft your email! Please email our Advocacy Lead, Liya Zhang (lzhang1@haverford.edu), to get the email template for our current advocacy campaign. It is very important to make sure the template you are using is up to date, as the political environment is constantly changing. Click here to see a previous email template.
Send a draft of your email to Liya to approve.
When Liya gives you the "okay", fill in the following information and click send!
To: Staffer
CC: Liya Zhang <lzhang1@haverford.edu>, Sierra Galindo <sgalindo@haverford.edu>, Eric Chen <echen4@haverford.edu>, Fynn Crooks <fcrooks@pih.org>
How do I prepare for my member of Congress meeting?
Do some research to find out who your member of congress is, their political history and priorities. Look up what committees they sit on, and what their voting history has been on relevant issues.
Brainstorm a “Story of Self” that takes ~1-2 minutes to tell, if you have not already done so. Don’t be nervous! Everyone has a worthy story of self. See further instructions here.
Review the meeting script! Check in with our Advocacy Lead (lzhang1@haverford.edu) to get the most updated version.
Our Advocacy Lead will assign meeting roles and help schedule the practice meeting. Meeting members must have a ~30 minute practice run together.
No more than two days after MoC meeting, the designated meeting member must fill in this 1 minute reporting form.
After a week, the meeting scheduler (whoever emailed the staffer) must send a follow up email to the staffer.
Anyone can schedule a MoC meeting! If you are interested in getting involved, we hold MoC scheduling and preparation sessions throughout the semester. If you would like to organize an MoC meeting for BiCo PIH Engage on your own time, please check in with our Advocacy Lead Liya (lzhang1@haverford.edu) before sending anything out. And if you want to advocate for your own cause, feel free to use our resources as inspiration!
